Open Bench
Runs weekly on Tuesday 6-8.30pm
Bring your own ideas to life in a supportive, community workshop setting. Our Open Bench sessions are perfect for anyone who wants to work on personal woodwork projects using our tools, machinery and workbench. Ideal for all your messy creative and DIY projects. There’s always someone around if you need some advice or guidance.
Are you a beginner or just don’t know what to make? Come along to Open Bench and make one of our beginner items - a bird box, spice rack, mini stool or coffee table to get you started learning basic woodwork and furniture techniques under our guidance.
Each session is £20 + a £1 booking fee for online bookings. Got a longer term project? Book 4 sessions and get 20% off!
Carving Club
Happens regularly throughout the year.
(day of the week changes due to volunteer availability, see calendar for updates)
Carving Club happens regularly 6-8:30pm throughout the year (day of the week changes due to volunteer availability). It is a drop-in session for carving enthusiasts wanting to carve spoons, spatulas, figures or whatever else from sustainably sourced green wood in the company of other carvers and whittlers!
Please note: This is not a taught session, so some experience is required although volunteers and other folk will be happy to help you learn and improve if you’re just starting out!
Suggested Donation £3 to use wood/tools. No booking required
Green wood is freshly cut timber that still contains natural moisture, making it easier to shape, carve, and work with while helping reduce waste. All of our green wood is from sourced locally felled trees often donated by tree surgeons, foresters or collected by volunteers.
Check the calendar for when it’s on.
Woodwork For Wellbeing & Skills

This 6 or 8-week programme is for people referred through mental health pathways who want to take part in a longer-term project and learn the basics of sustainable woodworking. Participants will learn to use hand and power tools, some machinery and work on their own creative woodwork project.
We offer this programme for Beginners and Improvers. You will need to be referred by a registered organisation to take part in these programmes. These programmes are subject to grant funding.
