Woodwork for Wellbeing & Skills
Woodwork can have a positive impact on both mental and physical wellbeing. Our Woodwork for Wellbeing & Skills programme supports people referred by charities and healthcare workers to build confidence, learn practical skills and improve their mental health. In 2024, the programme delivered over 200 hours of supported workshop time, helping 27 participants build practical skills, confidence and improved wellbeing.
If you are receiving support from a charity or healthcare provider for your mental health, you can ask them to refer you to our Woodwork for Wellbeing and Skills Programme.
Our Woodwork for Wellbeing & Skills Pathways
Introduction to Woodworking Course
A six week furniture-making course for people looking to improve their skills and wellbeing. You’ll learn to use hand and power tools to work with reclaimed timber to make items such as a spice rack, bird box and coffee table.
Regular Volunteering sessions
for people with woodwork experience and enthusiasm who want to continue learning in a safe and supported environment.
How it Works
You can ask any support worker or healthcare provider to refer you to the project. Referrers include: Glasgow Association for Mental Health, NHS, Carr Gomm, GP practices, Community Connectors, Glasgow Disability Alliance, We Are With You.
1.
After you’ve been referred you will be added to a waiting list for our upcoming courses. If you have completed one of these or have an exisiting experience, you may be able to join our Regular Volunteering Sessions.
2.
Once a space becomes available, we’ll get in touch to arrange an interest check with you and your support worker. This will give you the chance to visit the workshop, meet the team, and see if the programme feels like a good fit for you.
3.
If you have taken part in our Woodwork for Wellbeing & Skills 6 week programme previously or have existing woodwork experience, you may be eligable to join us as a volunteer. Please get in touch and let us know if you would like to be considered by filling out the form on our volunteers page.
4.
